PRESS RELEASE: Congressman Vela Announces $360k Awarded to cdcb

Press Release

Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) announced that come dream. come build. (cdcb) of Brownsville, Texas has been awarded $360,000 from NeighborWorks America.

NeighborWorks America is a public nonprofit organization, established by Congress in 1978, which supports and enhances a network of nearly 250 local and regional nonprofit partners. This network of partners work together to support investments in real estate development and lending, including: development of multi-family rental, single-family rental, for-sale housing, pre- and post-development activities, lending to support residential mortgages, down-payment assistance, and commercial small business lending.

cdcb joined the NeighborWorks America network in 2013 and is one of the largest non-profit providers of single-family housing in Texas. They offer residents of Cameron and Willacy counties safe, affordable housing.

"Safe and affordable housing for Americans is critical, especially as we continue to suffer the long-lasting effects of this once-in-a-generation pandemic," said Congressman Vela. "cdcb has made it their mission to create safe sustainable communities for low-income families living in the Rio Grande Valley. I am happy to see that NeighborWorks America continues to provide cdcb with the support needed to continue their important work. I look forward to offering my continued support to ensure that similar programs are made available to all those in need in South Texas."

"cdcb wants to thank NeighborWorks America and Congressman Vela for the support of our work in the Rio Grande Valley," said Nick Mitchell-Bennett, Executive Director of cdcb. "This year has been difficult for low-income families in the Rio Grande Valley. Dealing with the pandemic and continuing to struggle with issues related to persistent poverty. This award will help us to continue to move the RGV from persistent poverty to persistent prosperity."
